These pictures are not in chronological order...once loaded they're hard to move around in bulk...so please forgive me!!
FURNITURE PILOT...my classroom is being used to pilot some possibilities for furniture once the new schools open...and we LOVE it!! The first two days back we learned about volume and measured the volume of the inside of the two desks. Then we measured the area and perimeter of the tops of the two desks. We have opinions based on what they look like AND the data!!
The students still have the opportunity to work wherever they choose, but now they have new options with the new furniture!!
We love the new whiteboard instructional table...here we are working on drawing conclusions about a non-fiction text.
We are working on writing informational books...these are their writing partners collaborating to improve their pieces.
At the end of November, we collaborated with the other three magnet sites on a Jacob's Ladder non-fiction article. We read the article in class, discussed it, brainstormed ideas to answer questions, and then met (on Google Docs) other third grade magnet students from New Market and North Frederick to put our ideas together to write the best answers possible. The kids loved working on the same document AT THE SAME TIME as kids in other parts of the county.
The first week of December we celebrated the worldwide "Hour of Code"...a movement to bring computer coding into schools everywhere...the kids are hooked!! Ask them about it!
In December we celebrated meeting our Soaring with Pride goal with PJs and a movie, and thanks to Mrs. Osher, our awesome room parent, they had hot chocolate and cookies, too!
Right before Winter Break we got together with our PreK buddies and had so much fun!! We iced and decorated cookies, make candy canes out of beads, and read winter time stories together.
WE LOVE OUR BUDDIES!!
Like I said...they are all out of order, so sorry...but my goodness we have a lot of fun learning!
Right now we are working on many different things...in Language Arts we are working on author's point of view, character development, and main idea...we are ALWAYS working on main idea!! In Quarter Two, one of the things the kids worked on was a research project of a topic of their choice. We are presenting those projects this week. Their grades will go into Google Class room next week sometime. In math we are doing so many different things...we are working on an "M cubed" unit about really big numbers, we are working on estimating and rounding, measuring time, weight, and length. In writing the kids are producing information books, and in social studies we are working on economics and getting ready to start something called ENTREPRENEURS which the kids are going to just LOVE!!
And all the while I am working on becoming Nationally Board Certified...which is probably why I don't blog as often...if I'm not teaching, planning, or correcting papers, or being a mom (just that small job!!), I am working on my boards. Thank you for your patience and your support. I always appreciate it.
