We are working on a Science unit titled Forces and Interactions. Today the kids did an experiment to discover what happens when an equal force is applied to objects of different weights. Each set of two students had a measuring tape, a golf ball, a ping pong ball, and their data collection sheets. Ask them what they discovered. It was a great experiment and an even better discussion!
In Language Arts the kids have been reading short literary texts from a curriculum titled Jacobs Ladder. They work their way up a ladder as their comprehension of the text increases. They then discuss their brainstormed ideas in triads. Finally, they take their shared thoughts and write out well organized answers to questions about the text. I’ve been so impressed with their collaboration! Take a look!!
And finally...at this point in the year, I am going to change how feedback works on assignments. Students who receive a grade they are not happy with will have the opportunity to improve their work and turn it back in for an improved grade. The work has to be done in school. I’m learning that feedback is most effective if the student can apply what he/she is being told through feedback. But the responsibility of improving it and turning it back in will rest on the students. There will be time throughout the week that the kids will have time to do this redo work.
Our Valentine’s Day party is coming up soon. Our wonderful room parent, Mrs. Esposito sent out a Sign Up Genius to supply the necessities for the party. It will be Friday, February 14th at 11:30. We dismiss at 12:30 that day as it is a two hour early release. Thanks to Mrs. Esposito and her helpers Ms. Gu and Ms. Stamberg for assisting.
