WELCOME!!

You must be on the back page of your scavenger hunt if you're sitting here reading the blog!

Good job!

If you brought your supplies...don't forget to unpack them and organize your desk!

I am really excited for the upcoming year and so glad that YOU are in my class!

Have a great weekend and enjoy your families...oh, and take a orange piece of paper with the blog address...when you get home, tell your parents to add it to their bookmarks or favorites, OK?

Welcome to my NEW students and families!!

This is the place where I will post information every week about the goings on in our classroom. I am guessing that since you have found this blog, you have received my letter!! If not, you should be getting it any day now. I am so excited for the upcoming year...we are going to have a great time together while stretching our brains!!

I hope to get a chance to meet you all on Friday, August 16th from 3-4pm at the UES Open House...feel free to bring your school supplies and put them in your desks that afternoon...it will make the backpack a lot lighter Monday morning!!  When you get to the classroom...look for your desk...on it will be a Scavenger Hunt to help you become familiar with the classroom and our surroundings. We have a couple new students to the third grade magnet program this year...make sure to introduce yourselves to each other so that you can start off Monday the 19th already having made a new friend.

If you'd like to communicate with me BEFORE the 19th....maybe you'd like me to know what name you like to be called, or you'd like to tell me something interesting about your summer, or maybe you just have a question...please feel free to email me... karen.wills@fcps.org!

Enjoy the rest of your summer break...see you VERY soon!!

What has Nathan been up to? He'll tell you himself!

As for the blog. Like Emily, I sort of traveled the world; the land, sea, and air. Present day and the past; we even explored the moon. Like Cassidy, I was actually always in D.C.  Like Nikhil and Jessica, I did science: science experiments, activities, and quizzes ]: Though I found in a quiz, I will never become an astronaut with my horrible knowledge of the moon. Like everybody, I had fun!  On the down side though, I got six hours of sleep, I hardly ate anything for breakfast, but I don’t really care. If you didn’t just skip to this part, I had a Smithsonian sleepover at the Museum of Natural  History, best place in the national mall.   IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!
Nathan

What have Nikhil, Emmanuelle, and Jessica been up to? TAKE A LOOK....

Nikhil...

...participated in Take Your Child Day to Work Day at Ft. Detrick. While there, he and his sister, Mona held a couple of snakes on exhibition there! They enjoyed the Brain Museum- the picture is of a real formalin-preserved human brain which the children were allowed to hold. He has also been taking in some history this summer. For July 4th, Nikhil made it out to Ft. McHenry, Baltimore, where he and his sister participated in the flag folding ceremony, folding a 30x42 ft Star-Spangled Banner Flag, similar to the one that inspired Francis Scott Key during the War of 1812! And last weekend they visited Lincoln Cottage (in D.C.), President Lincoln's summer home where he drafted the Emancipation Proclamation. Now he's eagerly waiting his beach vacation just a couple of weeks away!

(Sorry about the sideways pictures...I couldn't fix them!!)

Jessica...
...sent us this very cool video of a circuit experiment she worked on this summer...ENJOY!

Emmanuelle...
...has had a busy summer!  She went to see One Direction...can you tell she enjoyed it?!?!  She has also spent tons of time at the pool...with family, with friends, and for swim team...she's a FISH!!

(three of our classmates together at the pool...I tried really hard to flip this one upside down...I'm obviously doing something wrong...so get on your head to enjoy this one!!)

OK...one week left to get those pix in...who's having fun this summer?

Emily...
visited 25 countries in 10 minutes, and 11 countries in one day!  She ate in Mexico and Morocco (twice), went Under the Sea and found Nemo, ate in a castle and walked through another.  She visited Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox, went to a luau, had lunch with an animal specialist, met a turtle, and stayed in a treehouse! Yes....she visited Disney World yet again!  This time to celebrate her cousin Charlotte's graduation from Linganore HS and her cousin Kat's safe return from Costa Rica.

Cassidy...

She visited the National Botanical Gardens,

was inside the National Building Museum,
