Did I spark your curiousity with that title?!?!
Meet my new best friend..."THE COW"...
aka "Computer cart On Wheels"...
the newest member of our class...
...unfortunately our friend is only temporary...but boy are we having fun!!
We are using the laptops during our Language Arts block to draft our biography reports...I'm saving those pictures for a movie, but below is a math lesson from Friday.
We spent a couple days working on line graphs, and on Friday we visited weather.com and collected temperature data on three cities around the US...then the kids constructed a triple line graph...to say that these kids were engaged is putting it mildly...take a look into what I hope is the future of education...
So...line graphs, line plots, statistics...that's been the focus in Math.
In Language Arts most of the kids are finished researching their famous person and have started drafting the stories of "their" lives...they are telling the story in first person as if they ARE the famous person...they have done an AMAZING job reseraching...but the hard part is now putting it into a story format...
All of this is in preparation for the Wills Wax Museum! And I think we have a date...fingers crossed the pacing of the kids' writing works with my plans. As of right now, the Wax Museum is set for Friday, February 24th from 9:05 am until 10:20 am in the cafeteria. This is a wonderful morning you won't want to miss! Please plan to stay for the entire hour and 15 minutes...it is a walking tour and the kids are working very hard in preparation for this day!
We are doing a lot of other things in our busy days, as well! We are already halfway through the uppercase cursive alphabet and will be finished learning the letters by the end of this upcoming week...then the heavy practice begins...we are trying to get ready for an all cursive 4th quarter...some kids will be ready for that, others not, but it's our goal!
We head into Science this week...the kids are very excited...they saw the science trays and cups on the back table and you could hear the excitement brewing!
We will also be tapping into novels this week or next...they will be reading books that are appropraite to their reading levels...more to come on this!
I hope you're having a great weekend...looks like our friend the groundhog meant business...but snow on the weekends? Come on!
